afrika süd veröffentlicht Beiträge zum südlichen Afrika. Der regionale Berichtsraum umfasst die 16 Mitgliedsstaaten der regionalen Entwicklungsgemeinschaft des südlichen Afrika (SADC).
Zielsetzung der Zeitschrift afrika süd ist eine differenzierte Berichterstattung über gesellschaftliche Themen der Berichtsregion und deren Zusammenhänge sowie die Anregung zu Diskursen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf politischen, sozialen, ökonomischen, Umwelt- und kulturellen Themen.
Da die Zeitschrift auf eine breite und diverse Leser*innenschaft von Fachpublikum bis allgemein Interessierten ausgerichtet ist, bevorzugen wir einen nicht-wissenschaftlichen, journalistisch-essayistischen Schreibstil. Auf Fußnoten und detaillierte Literaturangaben wird weitgehend verzichtet.

Jeder abgedruckte Beitrag wird mit durchschnittlich zwei Bildern illustriert. Hierzu freuen wir uns besonders über Einreichungen von den Autor*innen. Fotos, Grafiken und Illustrationen müssen hierfür digital als einzelne Original-Datei in TIFF, JPEG oder PSD-Format, in Druckauflösung (@ 300 dpi) und idealerweise mit einer Größe von mindestens 1,5 Megapixel eingereicht werden.
Es sind stets die Quelle und die Urheberrechte anzugeben, auch bei Entnahmen aus dem Internet.

Was passiert, nachdem Sie Ihren Beitrag bei uns eingereicht haben?
Die Redaktion sichtet die Einreichungen und entscheidet über Annahme oder Ablehnungen. Gegebenenfalls werden mit den Autor*innen Rückfragen, Kommentare und Änderungsvorschläge oder Kürzungen besprochen.
Nach Zustimmung zu den Änderungen erfolgt ggfs. die Übersetzung ins Deutsche, der Satz (Layout, Bebilderung) und Druck seitens der Redaktion.
Eine Aufwandsentschädigung ist für Autor*innen möglich, die nicht für das Verfassen ihrer Texte durch ein anderes Arbeitsverhältnis (z.B. eine vergütete Anstellung an einer Universität oder einem Forschungsinstitut) entlohnt werden. Da unsere finanziellen Ressourcen stark begrenzt sind, werden insbesondere Autor*innen aus dem Südlichen Afrika unterstützt. Die Aufwandsentschädigung orientiert sich anhand der Druckseiten des Beitrags (siehe Tabelle oben):

ab 3 Druckseiten - 100 €
Die Überweisung erfolgt nach dem Druck gegen Rechnung an issa e.V. innerhalb Europas per Konto, außerhalb Europas nach Absprache.

afrika süd publishes articles on Southern Africa. The reporting area comprises the 16 member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The objective of the journal afrika süd is to provide differentiated and nuanced reporting on societal issues in the region and their interrelationships, as well as to stimulate discourse. The focus is on political, social, economic, environmental and cultural topics.
Since the journal is aimed at a broad and diverse readership ranging from specialists to the generally interested, we prefer a non-scientific, journalistic-essayistic style of writing. Footnotes and detailed references are largely omitted. Similarly, constant citation is not usual.

The ethical standards for journalism apply. Furthermore, afrika süd takes care to use language that is as gender equitable and non-discriminatory as possible. In exceptional orthographical cases in the German language, the editorial team reserves the right to find a flexible linguistic solution.

Each printed article will be illustrated with an average of two pictures. We are particularly looking forward to photo submissions from the respective authors. Photos, graphics and illustrations must be submitted digitally as a single original file in TIFF, JPEG or PSD format, in print resolution (@ 300 dpi) and ideally with a size of at least 1.5 megapixels.
The source and copyrights must always be indicated, even when extracted from the Internet.

What happens after you submit your article to us?
The editorial team reviews the submissions and decides on the acceptance. If necessary, questions, comments and suggestions for changes or shortenings are discussed with the authors.
After approval of the changes by the authors, the translation into German, the typesetting (layout, illustration) and printing will be carried out by the editors.
An honorary payment is possible for authors who are not remunerated for writing their texts through another employment (e.g. a waged position at a university or research institute). As our financial resources are very limited, authors from Southern Africa are supported preferentially. The payment is based on the number of printed pages of the article (see table above):
1 printed page - 50 €
2 printed pages - 80 €
3 or more printed pages - 100 €
The transfer will be made after printing against the handing in of an invoice* to issa e.V. within Europe by bank account, outside Europe by arrangement.
